***Green Township residents*** Please read information below regarding JCPL power outages from OEM Coordinator:
We are now more than 41 hours into one of the most devastating storms our community has experienced in several years. Since the storm began, Green Township officials, the Department of Public Works (DPW), emergency personnel, and volunteers have been working around the clock to restore access throughout the Township and address the many challenges caused by widespread storm damage.
To date, Township crews have reopened as many roadways as possible where fallen trees and debris could be safely removed. However, many roads remain blocked due to downed utility poles, power lines, and trees entangled with electrical infrastructure. These hazards can only be addressed by JCP&L and other utility companies before the roadways can safely reopen.
We understand the frustration many residents are experiencing. Please know that Green Township is doing everything within its authority to expedite utility responses. The Township has submitted an urgent request to JCP&L and has engaged our local legislative representatives to advocate for immediate assistance on behalf of our residents. Unfortunately, as of this update, we have seen limited utility response within Green Township.
?? Important Safety Message
Residents are strongly urged not to walk over, move, cut, or attempt to remove trees or branches that are in contact with downed power lines.
Assume all downed power and utility lines are energized and dangerous. Even in areas where power appears to be out, electricity may still be flowing through damaged lines. In some cases, generators operating at nearby homes may inadvertently backfeed power into utility systems, creating an extremely hazardous situation.
For your safety:
- Stay well away from all downed wires and utility equipment.
- Do not attempt to clear trees or limbs near power lines.
- Report hazardous conditions to emergency services and JCP&L immediately.
- Keep children and pets away from downed wires and storm-damaged areas.
Cooling and Charging Stations Available
To assist residents affected by extended power outages, the Township and Green Township Office of Emergency Management have established a Cooling and Charging Center at the Green Township Firehouse yesterday and today until 4pm. Residents are welcome to utilize the facility for:
- Air-conditioned shelter
- Charging cell phones and electronic devices
- Temporary relief from the heat
Additionally, beginning tomorrow, the downstairs meeting room at Green Township Town Hall will be open during normal Township business hours as an additional cooling and charging station for residents in need.
Stay Informed
Green Township will continue to press JCP&L and all appropriate agencies for answers, resources, and action as recovery efforts continue.
Residents are encouraged to monitor official Township communications for updates:
- Green Township Website
- Green Township Facebook Page
- Green Township OEM Facebook Page
We appreciate the patience, resilience, and cooperation of our residents during this challenging time. Together, we will continue working toward a full recovery and the restoration of services throughout Green Township.
Stay safe, stay informed, and please exercise caution around all storm-damaged areas.
